2009 Competition Success.

Brooke Trainor to contest Junior Olympic Selections. 

The Olympic Junior Selection Championships will be contested in Box- Hill on December 6 and Trainor Taekwondo Academy will be represented by Brooke Trainor in the 58 to 63 weight division. Brooke has enjoyed a very good year with strong performances at the Tasmanian Open, Victorian Championship Gold and runner-up national champion. Brooke’s main opposition will come from current national representative players representing Australia at the forthcoming World Junior Championships. The Junior Olympic Games will be contested in Singapore in August 2010. Good luck Brooke! Good Luck Brooke! 

 

Katelyn Bugden off to Belgium!

Talented technical athlete, Katelyn Bugden will join an Australian team to contest the Belgium Open, reputed to be one of the most competitive Technical competitions on the Taekwondo calendar. Katelyn will head off in March 2010. Katelyn has also been invited to join an elite group of under 18 and senior black belts identified as potential national representative players at world championship level.  Katelyn’s Belgium experience will give her an opportunity to condition herself to the challenges of performing internationally. We congratulate Katelyn on her competition success and wish her the very best in Belgium.    

 

Victorian Taekwondo Technical Selection Championships 2009


Trainor Taekwondo and Self-defence Academy technical team continued to perform well at state level, winning 3 gold, 10 silver and 4 bronze medals at the recent Victorian Taekwondo Technical selection Championships.

Held over two days, the competition attracted over 500 athletes vying for state selection and the right to represent their state at the forthcoming national Taekwondo championships to be contested this year in Brisbane.
 

 

 

 


Stand-out performances were recorded once again by Katelyn Bugden ( 16) who won the 3rdDan Black belt traditional patterns ( 14 to 17 years) division- for the third consecutive year! Katelyn, the current national champion, is looking forward to defending her National title in October and thereafter representing Australia at forthcoming world technical championships. Other stand-out performers included Chelsea Trainor and Zoe Trezise. Chelsea  continued to perform well to secure the silver medal in the hotly contested under 13 Black Belt division.  Competing as a junior Black belt for the first time at state level, Zoe Trezise ( 11yrs) impressed the judges with her silver medal winning performance in creative patterns and then teamed up with club mates Jaclyn Carlyle and Sharie-Lee Olver to win a silver medal in the team event. Coaches, Janine and Russell  Trainor were pleased with the over-all performance of the Ballarat team, having qualified in all, 16 players ( some contesting both sparring and technical) to join the Victorian Taekwondo team to contest this year national Taekwondo Championships.


Victorian Taekwondo Olympic Sparring Selections

 

Trainor Taekwondo Academy  qualified 11 fighters to qualify for this years National Taekwondo Championships.The fighters had to gain either gold, silver or bronze at last weekends Victorian Taekwondo Selection Championships contest over two days at the State Netball and Hockey Centre.  Attracting in excess of 600 entries, competition was fierce and ensured exciting matched, played simultaneously on 5 courts over the two days of play. 

 

 

Stand out performances were recorded by Brooke Trainor  (15yrs) who took out the final of the Under 18 Black belt division in devastating style. Leading 8/7 after two rounds, Trainor came out in the 3 and final round with a fierce flurry of explosive kicking attacks and speedy counter kicks to bewilder her older opponent. Trainor was thrilled at her 15/7 win and first black belt state title.  In all, 11 Ballarat and western regional Taekwondo athletes placed either Gold silver or bronze at this years state Taekwondo championships, to qualify for inclusion in the Victorian team.

 

Black Belt Grading

 

Trainor Taekwondo Academy, concluded 2008 with a very successfull Black Belt graduation for 28 senior Black Belt members.Current national technical champion, Katelyn Bugden set the standard  with a superb display of patterns and self-defence. Katelyn has enjoyed a very successfull 2008 having won a very competitive national Under 18 division followed by the gold medal at the One-on-One technical event in November. Katelyn graduated to 3rd Dan Black Belt.  Talented youngsters, Adam Farrell and Ben Farrell followed and continued to impress with an excellent presentation of self-defence and sparring. Adam and Ben were promoted to 2nd Dan Black Belt.
   

Academy Boxing and fitness coach, Grant Jansen put on an awesome display of street safe self-defence incorporating his specialist skills. Grant gained his 1st dan Black Belt.
In all, 28 members advanced their Black Belt grade including 15 new Black Belt club members who were presented with their embroidered black belts.

For many of these students, the  Black Belt examination is the culmination of four to five years of study in martial arts and fitness. Students were required to demonstrate mastery in a broad range of skills including street safe self-defence including defence against knife attack and also board breaking.

Trainor Taekwondo Academy master instructor, Mr Trainor was very pleased with the overall standard of black belts that not only included a number of state and national grade players, but showed a depth of skill across all discipline areas including technical, self-defence and sparring.

Students of Trainor Taekwondo Academy graduate with an internationally accredited Black Belt degree in Taekwondo from the World Taekwondo Federation. Black Belt degrees awarded at Trainor Taekwondo Academy are recognised in 1000 Taekwondo clubs around Australia and over 180 nations around the world.
 
The Black Belt graduation was conducted by internationally accredited Examiner and Trainor Taekwondo Master Instructor, Mr Russell Trainor,  5th Degree Black Belt.
